I have been inundated by emails about the restoration of an Ashford-Brussels Eurostar.
I am delighted that my husband will actually be able to spend a whole weekend at home instead of going up to St.Pancras at teatime on a Sunday. However, I am disappointed that there would seem to be no Lille stop so the service will be of no use to folk wanting to make an early connection to France, Switzerland and Italy although it will make it better for onward connections from BXL.
There is likewise no return evening train for passengers from Europe wanting to have a day in the UK or to go to the Ashford Designer Outlet for example. It is an early start for those outside of Ashford but I know quite a few people used to stay overnight in local hotels and leave their car there so that is good for local businesses.
It will be great to get to the Christmas market in Aachen by about 11.00a.m and for no extra cost as your Eurostar ticket is valid throughout Belgium I would like to be sure that the current cheapest fare of £59 will be available on this train and the return one at 5.00pm
Its success will be entirely in Eurostar’s hands and the efficiency of its marketing - no yobs peeing into a teacup or naked policemen please!
I have to say a very big ‘thank you’ to the 15,000 signatories of our petition and all to of the people who collected signatures as well as those who wrote wonderful letters making very good points and keeping the issue alive.
Let’s hope that this is just the start with many improvements to follow.
