Geography

A letter from the Department of Transport to a passenger said ‘The opening of Ebbsfleet has provided Kent with two international stations and increased the catchment for those rail passengers in the wider south-east and who want to travel to Europe.’

As I see it passengers from Essex and west of London can already access Eurostar from St Pancras. Did we really need a second station so close to London especially when it could only be justified by taking passengers from Ashford? Worse, those people from East Kent, Dover, Folkestone, Hythe and along the Marsh have lost their services and just don’t travel any longer. Eurostar has flung away tens of thousands of passengers. Ashford was accessible, Ebbsfleet wasn’t. How can this make good business sense?

Why We're Here

Eurostar, the international train company, will end all direct Ashford to Brussels services from 19th November 2007 when they open a new station at Ebbsfleet, some 35 miles away. We, as regular Eurostar passengers, wish to help save Eurostar from a decision that will undermine their existing customer base and their reputation.
