Would you travel from Peterborough to York in order to get to London?
‘Don’t be stupid.’ I hear you cry. But we in Ashford are being expected to do something similar.
In a letter from the chief executive’s office dated 6th May, I was told “One of the peripheral benefits’ (from the launch of the fast Hitachi service to London) ‘is that some of the new trains will stop at Ebbsfleet, increasing the number of Eurostar services which are readily accessible for travellers from Ashford and the rest of Kent.”
Do the Eurostar executives really believe that people want to waste time and money travelling in the WRONG direction to a station that many travellers positively detest and actively eschew! This beggar’s belief. I seem to remember that expressions like ‘ease’ and ‘convenience’ figured highly in the promotional advertising for St.Pancras. Does this mean (and we have often suspected it) that Ashford passengers are less important?
Why can’t the Ebbsfleet people come down to Ashford. This would provide passengers going counter-flow in the peak periods and so ease congestion. Or is that too simple a concept?
